Good posture is crucial for overall health and wellbeing. Unfortunately, many people in today’s world struggle with maintaining good posture due to prolonged sitting, slouching, and staring at screens. Poor posture can lead to a host of problems, including back pain, neck pain, headaches, and even breathing difficulties. That’s why it’s essential to take steps to improve your posture, and Mike Adams PT is here to help you do just that.
As a personal trainer with over a decade of experience in South London, including Clapham, Bank, and Old Street areas, Mike Adams has seen firsthand the importance of proper posture in his clients. Here are five exercises that Mike recommends to improve your posture:
- Wall Angels Stand with your back against a wall and your arms at a 90-degree angle, like you’re making a “goal post” shape with your arms. Slowly slide your arms up the wall and back down, keeping your elbows, wrists, and hands in contact with the wall the entire time.
- Superman Lie face down on the floor with your arms extended in front of you. Lift your arms, chest, and legs off the ground simultaneously, hold for a few seconds, and then lower back down.
- Prone Cobra Lie face down on the floor with your arms at your sides and palms facing down. Lift your chest and arms off the ground, squeezing your shoulder blades together. Hold for a few seconds and then lower back down.
- Cat-Cow Start on your hands and knees with your wrists under your shoulders and your knees under your hips. Arch your back up like a cat, and then lower it down like a cow, moving slowly and deliberately.
- Standing T-Spine Rotation Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and your arms extended in front of you. Rotate your torso to the left, keeping your hips facing forward. Return to center and then rotate to the right.
By incorporating these exercises into your fitness routine, you can improve your posture and reduce the risk of pain and discomfort associated with poor posture. Working with a personal trainer like Mike Adams can help you ensure that you are performing the exercises correctly and effectively, optimizing your results.
